Artist Statement

Carole Segal
Online Studio of Fine Art

My journey in Art has become my passion. I believe in the beautiful and the aesthetic in Art. My obsession is to produce Art that uplifts and captures the elements of light and space in a way that moves the soul.

Most of my work is figurative and I have been painting women alla prima in my own romantic style, illuminated in dramatic glowing light. I select my models carefully, posing and painting them in an environment, always striving to get the essence of the moment. I strive for emotion and drama and would hope my viewers would experience same.

I am a life long true blue born, bred and educated, Montrealer. I started off painting in the traditional style and technique, but have always dreamed “outside the box”.

I now work in several mediums, but my intent is to always communicate beauty, drama and emotional content to my viewer, I am a lover of texture, gold, and reflective surfaces. The face and figure seem to emerge in both my oils and mixed media. Because I am of a curious nature I need to explore and experiment in my work. When I work with “my own conventions”, I am reminded that balance in colour, shapes, and edges are to be respected. I begin a piece by thinking about the concept. My starting place is simple curiosity. I know a piece is complete when I am filled with a sense of euphoria and that there is nothing more to state.

As an artist, my primary goal is to embrace my own individual style. The true meaning of my work is rich colour, elegantly designed surfaces, and interesting compositions with a feeling of depth and dimension. Many of my creations are influenced by my travels, celebrations of the ethnic communities of Montreal, and everyday life. My heroes are Nicolai Fechin, Patricia Nix, and Richard Schmid.
